West Ham end defender chase as club don’t want to engage in ‘bidding war’

West Ham United’s pursuit for a new defender has hit a snag with a report in Sky Sports Transfer Centre claiming that the Hammers do not want to engage in a ‘bidding war’ for their top target.

Saint Etienne defender Wesley Fofana was a top target for the Hammers, but a recent bid up to £33million was rejected by the French club.

Now it appears West Ham will turn to alternative targets citing they don’t want to get involved in an increasing rivalry to land the 19-year-old, with Leicester City said to be the frontrunners.

West Ham will likely put all their efforts into landing Burnley’s James Tarkowski, but again the price-tag is proving a stumbling block.
