Italian football executives are getting a lot of heat for how they keep switching managers so quick, and Ivan Jurić’s story really shows what’s wrong with it all. Looking at how things went down at AS Roma and Southampton, you can see these guys don’t really think ahead when they pick their coaches.
- Ivan Jurić got the AS Roma job in September 2024 but they kicked him out just two months after
- At Southampton he broke records but not the good kind – worst losing streak ever
- Even after all that mess Atalanta still gave him the managers job in June 2025
Ivan Jurić’s Managerial Challenges
The way Ivan Jurić’s career has gone is really showing what’s wrong with how Italian football bosses think. They made him AS Roma manager in September 2024, but he didn’t even last till Christmas cause the team was playing so bad. Then things got even worse at Southampton where the team just kept losing and losing till they got kicked out of the Premier League.
⚠️ Saudi clubs really need to stop hiring Italian sporting directors and CEOs. The way Italian clubs constantly fire coaches and recycle them makes no sense. 🇮🇹
Just look at Ivan Jurić – he became AS Roma manager in September 2024, got sacked by November, then went to Southampton where he set their worst ever losing record. And now Atalanta have hired him as their new coach! 🤦♂️
Italian football executives clearly lack any long-term vision. That’s why bringing in Guido Fienga as Al-Nassr CEO was the PIF’s worst decision in recent memory. 🇸🇦❌

But here’s the weird thing, even after messing up twice Atalanta still thought he was the right guy to take over from Gian Piero Gasperini who’d actually done pretty good there. It’s like these guys don’t learn from their mistakes you know what I mean.
Guido Fienga’s Controversial Role at Al-Nassr
When they put Guido Fienga in charge of Al-Nassr a lot of people were shaking their heads. Yeah he got Adidas to work with the club and stuff but things aren’t going smooth at all. I mean Abdul Aziz Al-Omran straight up said no to being club president cause he didn’t wanna work with Fienga that’s how bad it is.
This whole mess just shows you the problems these clubs have got when it comes to picking who runs things. It’s pretty much the same story we keep seeing with these Italian football guys running things.
Broader Implications for Italian Football Management
You can see the same problems everywhere these Italian executives are involved. Like at Al-Hilal they just fired Jorge Jesus and put Mohammed Al-Shalhoub in charge for now while they try to get someone big like Carlo Ancelotti, but it’s all just more of the same really.
- Al-Hilal: Got rid of Jorge Jesus and now Mohammed Al-Shalhoub’s in charge for a bit.
- AS Roma: Kicked Jurić out after just two months cause things weren’t working.
- Southampton: Lost so many games under Jurić they got relegated.
It’s just like what happened with Jurić and all the drama with Fienga. When you’re switching managers every five minutes how do you expect to build anything that lasts in football.
