Ronaldo speaks on reports that Lionel Messi will hand in transfer request

Lionel Messi appears to be closer than ever to leaving Barcelona after a season that ended with an 8-2 defeat in the Champions League and losing the La Liga title to arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Now former Barcelona and legendary Brazilian striker Ronaldo has given his views on the reports that Messi will hand in a transfer request;

“It is very unlikely that Messi will leave Barcelona, especially with the financial crisis in Europe,” Ronaldo was quoted in a report by Goal.

“Messi is the reference of the team and if I was Barcelona I would not let him leave in any case.”

“Messi has a very intense relationship with Barcelona, I do not think he will stop being in love with the team. He’s upset, of course, with how they were defeated in the Champions League.”

“Messi needs his team-mates to help him, as they do, and Barcelona will have to think of something different for the next seasons. Letting your main player leave is not the solution.”

Lionel Messi has a deal until next summer with the Spanish giants, and if a sale if permitted this summer, a huge transfer fee will likely be demanded despite the Argentine being 33 and in his final year of contract.
