Recently sacked boss “very keen” on short-term Man Utd role

Manchester United are working post-Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Michael Carrick in interim charge of the club, while the hunt for a new manager goes on in the background, and a surprise name has emerged to take the Old Trafford hot seat.

According to a report via The Athletic, recently sacked Newcastle boss Steve Bruce is “very keen” on the role until the end of the season – potentially a stop-gap before a longer term appointment.

The influence of Sir Alex Ferguson in the background could indeed sway the club to look to Bruce as ‘fixer’ in the short term, with the former Man Utd defender an icon during his playing days.

Mauricio Pochettino remains the frontrunner for the role, but terms will have to be reached with PSG for that to transpire and it’s likely to come at a supremely high-cost.
