Sporting CP has made a big management change by letting go of head coach João Pereira and bringing in Rui Borges to take over. Pereira didn’t last long and had mixed results, even though Sporting is currently leading the Primeira Liga on goal difference. The impact of old manager Rúben Amorim who’s now at Manchester United, is still showing at the club.

  • João Pereira got fired after having a rough month with Sporting CP.
  • Rui Borges has been picked as the new head coach.
  • Sporting CP is still on top of the Primeira Liga on goal difference.

João Pereira’s Brief Tenure

João Pereira’s time as head coach of Sporting CP didn’t last long after he started in November 2024. While he was there Sporting only won one game in four league matches and got beaten badly 5-1 by Arsenal and lost 2-1 to Club Brugge in the Champions League. Even with these bad results Sporting somehow stayed at the top of the Primeira Liga because of goal difference. The club wanted better results which is why they got rid of Pereira.

Rúben Amorim’s Lasting Influence

Rúben Amorim who helped Sporting win two league titles before, is now managing Manchester United since November 2024. You can still see how his ideas are affecting Sporting, just like what he’s doing at Manchester United. Amorim likes working with young players, like how he’s helping Alejandro Garnacho get better which makes people think about Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rui Borges’ Appointment and Future Prospects

Getting Rui Borges as the new head coach shows Sporting CP wants to get things back on track. Borges is taking over from Amorim who did really good and Pereira who didn’t last long. We don’t know much about what Borges has done before but Sporting picked him because they want to get better and keep winning in the Primeira Liga. Everyone’s gonna be watching real close to see how Borges does in his first games as Sporting tries to stay on top of the league.
