A permanent switch is entering its final stages, with Coventry City closing in on Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi as the last formal steps are worked through. The move is still pending, with no official confirmation yet on registration or contract details.
- Coventry City have agreed a permanent deal for Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest.
- Awoniyi is undergoing a medical as the transfer advances.
- Coventry will add another striking option for Frank Lampard if the remaining steps are completed.
Taiwo Awoniyi’s Coventry City Transfer Situation
Coventry have taken a major step forward by reaching an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the permanent transfer of Awoniyi. However, an agreed deal is not the same as a completed signing, and the move remains subject to a successful medical.
Awoniyi remains a Nottingham Forest player until the final formalities are concluded and the move is officially announced. With no fee, contract length, or completion timeline confirmed yet, Coventry are close to bringing in a new striker, but the transfer is not quite over the line.
Awoniyi’s Recent Nottingham Forest Role
Awoniyi was still part of the Nottingham Forest first-team picture very recently, featuring in the club’s August 2026 pre-season schedule as this move developed. That included Forest’s 2-1 friendly win over Bayer Leverkusen on 12 August, underlining that he remained involved before Coventry’s interest advanced.
His recent Premier League output gives a sense of his form. Awoniyi scored four goals in 17 Premier League appearances in 2025, while his earlier 2023 campaign produced six goals in 20 appearances.
A Fresh Opportunity for Awoniyi and Coventry
If completed, this move will give Awoniyi a fresh start and add depth up front for manager Frank Lampard, with a player who has recent top-flight experience.
Until that arrives, any assumptions about his role, squad number, or starting place remain premature.
