Marcus Rashford is having trouble getting into Manchester United’s first team under Rúben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 setup. Mason Mount who’s really good at playing different positions, makes it hard for Rashford to get in the team. Amorim keeps trying different players to get the team playing better.
- Rashford can’t really get used to the 3-4-2-1 setup.
- Mason Mount being so flexible is making it tough for Rashford.
- Amorim wants to get the team playing the best it can.
Rashford’s Tactical Challenge
In the way Manchester United is playing now Marcus Rashford is kind of stuck. Since Rúben Amorim came in, the team switched to this 3-4-2-1 thing and Rashford just can’t seem to get it right. Even though he’s played like 440 games and scored 139 goals for United, he just doesn’t fit in with how they’re playing now. Then there’s Mason Mount who they got from Chelsea for £55 million last year, who’s been really good in midfield and can play anywhere which is something Rashford hasn’t managed to do yet with this new way of playing.
“Marcus Rashford has yet to show he can really thrive in this 3-4-2-1 system. As Ruben Amorim continues to work out his best starting XI, it is hard to see how the academy graduate gets in ahead of Mason Mount”

Amorim’s Strategic Overhaul
When Rúben Amorim became Manchester United’s manager in 2024 he changed a lot about how the team plays. He likes doing things different and started using this 3-4-2-1 setup that’s really good at defending and uses lots of young players. You can see this in how they went and got this 17 year old kid Diego León from Paraguay. But things haven’t been easy for Amorim especially with important players like Luke Shaw being injured.
The Path Forward for Manchester United
As United gets ready for their next games including this big one against Viktoria Plzen the team is still trying to get used to how Amorim wants them to play. They really want to get young players in the team while fixing problems with passing and defending. Everyone keeps talking about whether Rashford can do well in this system. It’s really competitive for starting spots with everyone trying to show Amorim they should be in the team.
