England’s women’s national team manager Sarina Wiegman has released the newest squad picks and there’s quite a few key players missing because of injuries. Some big names that won’t be there are Niamh Charles, Lauren James, Ella Toone and Lauren Hemp who’ve been super important for England lately especially when they won the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022.

  • Niamh Charles, Lauren James, Ella Toone and Lauren Hemp are out injured
  • First senior call-ups for Laura Blindkilde Brown and Ruby Mace
  • Gabby George is back in the national team

Opportunities for Emerging Talents

Even with all these players out it’s opened up chances for new talent to come through. Laura Blindkilde Brown and Ruby Mace are getting their first shot with the senior team which shows how Wiegman wants to bring up young players. Blindkilde Brown from Manchester City and Mace from Leicester City should bring some new energy to the squad.

Gabby George’s Return

Having Gabby George back in the squad shows there’s lots of good players to pick from. She’s a defender at Manchester United and brings lots of experience to the back line. Her time playing in the Women’s Super League will really help England in their upcoming games.

Strategic Timing and Women’s Football Growth

The timing of this announcement is pretty good as women’s football keeps getting bigger and bigger. You can see this in big matches like the upcoming Chelsea vs Manchester City game in the Women’s Super League. If you want to know more about women’s football and the players check out:
