Savinho’s Move to Tottenham Is Complete
After a transfer saga that had been building for some time, Savinho’s first remarks made it clear how he sees the next step, with the winger saying: “It’s taken a while, but I’m very happy to be here. It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.”
“As soon as I spoke to De Zerbi I knew I had to come.”
Savinho
Savinho leaves Manchester City with recent Premier League experience behind him, even if starts were not always easy to come by. In 2025/26, he made 24 league appearances, starting seven times, scoring once and providing one assist, which gives some context as to why a fresh move appeals at this stage of his career.
Why Savinho’s Tottenham Move Made Sense
Savinho’s move to Tottenham did not come out of nowhere. Spurs had admired him for a long time, hoping to make progress during their pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia. They had already failed in an attempt to sign him the previous summer before keeping the chase alive.
Limited starting opportunities at Manchester City helped shape the timing, making Tottenham’s pitch more attractive as De Zerbi looks to build what he has described as a new project, one focused on finding the team’s soul and improving their organisation with and without the ball.
Savinho’s Background and Tottenham Opportunity
Savinho’s profile helps explain why Tottenham stayed on him for so long. His strongest earlier top-flight return came in La Liga in 2023/24, when he produced nine goals and 10 assists, while his 2024/25 Premier League season brought one goal and eight assists. He has produced across goals and assists rather than relying on one standout trait.
Tottenham are adding pace, ball-carrying, one-on-one ability and chance creation from wide areas, which fits neatly with the clearer style De Zerbi wants to establish. Savinho does not need to be framed as an instant, guaranteed starter for the move to make sense; the opportunity is there in a side trying to sharpen their identity.
