Barcelona’s proposed move for Rodri has taken a major step forward, with the Manchester City midfielder now at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, the club’s first-team training base, for a medical and to meet the squad. The deal is at an advanced stage, although the transfer should still be viewed as close rather than complete until the remaining formalities are ironed out.
- Rodri is at Barcelona’s training base for a medical.
- Barcelona and Manchester City reportedly have an agreement in principle for the midfielder.
- Paperwork, formal confirmation and registration could follow once the final steps are completed.
Rodri’s Medical Brings Barcelona Move Closer
Rodri’s arrival at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper pushes the proposed transfer beyond talks and into the practical stages that usually precede completion, with his visit also giving him the chance to meet the squad.
A medical is the clearest sign yet that the deal is progressing, but there is still no formal confirmation from Barcelona and the move has not yet been registered. For now, it remains a late-stage transfer rather than a done deal.
In the 2025/26 Premier League season, he made 21 appearances, scored once and played 1,511 minutes for Manchester City.
Agreement in Principle Sets Up the Final Steps
Barcelona and Manchester City reportedly reached an agreement in principle for Rodri on 16 August, moving the deal into its final administrative phase. The proposed package is valued at €76.5 million (£65.3 million), while the immediate focus is on the medical now taking place.
The clubs had already been exchanging paperwork before Rodri’s arrival in Catalonia, which helps explain why the move has progressed this far.
What Could Follow for Rodri at Barcelona
Official confirmation, registration and fuller integration with Barcelona’s first-team squad would still follow if the remaining formalities are completed.
