Ipswich Town are closing in on Exequiel Palacios, who is expected in England to complete the final stages of a move from Bayer Leverkusen. The deal is set to be worth €22.5 million plus €5 million in add-ons, with a four-year contract lined up if everything is signed off.

  • An agreement is in place, though the move still awaits final completion.
  • The proposed package is €22.5 million plus €5 million in add-ons, with a four-year contract expected.
  • Palacios is due to travel to England to finalise the transfer.

Exequiel Palacios Set to Join Ipswich Town

Ipswich are already up and running in the new campaign after beating Leicester City 3-1 in the EFL Cup on 25 August, and Palacios now looks like a serious addition to their squad. While he remains a Bayer Leverkusen player for now, an agreement is in place for him to head to Portman Road once the final details, medical, and paperwork are completed.

If the deal is completed, he would become Ipswich’s first World Cup-winning player.

Ipswich’s Pursuit of Palacios

Exequiel Palacios has been on Ipswich’s radar for a while, and this apparent breakthrough follows earlier resistance from Bayer Leverkusen. Ipswich had already seen a second offer knocked back earlier in August before improving their approach and moving closer to an agreement.

Ipswich have had to keep pushing to get to this point, and while the deal is not over the line just yet, the proposed four-year agreement through to 2030 shows they are planning beyond the short term if the signing is finalised.

Palacios’s Leverkusen Record and Ipswich Opportunity

Palacios would arrive with recent top-level experience. He made 18 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen in 2025/26 and recorded one assist in 1,099 minutes, after posting one goal and six assists in 24 league appearances in 2024/25.

His Champions League experience and potential 2026 World Cup involvement add to the appeal for Ipswich, who have already made their mark in the Premier League this season with a 2-1 win over Sunderland on 22 August. If the final stages are completed, Palacios could give them another high-profile option as the campaign starts to take shape.
