Boca Juniors young star Aaron Anselmino has moved to Chelsea in what looks to be a big moment for his career going forward. Chelsea bringing Anselmino to Stamford Bridge shows they really think he can help the team succeed.

  • Aaron Anselmino joins Chelsea from Boca Juniors for €18 million.
  • He was initially loaned back to Boca Juniors to complete their season.
  • Chelsea recalled him in January 2025, showing they want him in the squad now.

Anselmino’s Journey from Boca to Chelsea

Aaron Anselmino moving to Chelsea is like starting fresh for the 19-year-old Argentine centre-back. They paid €18 million to get him from Boca Juniors last summer in 2024, and let him stay at Boca to finish up their season. Even though he had some trouble with his hamstring he still started 12 games out of 14 while on loan which was pretty good. Chelsea wanted him back in January 2025 cause they think he can really help their defense right now.

Riquelme’s Confidence in Anselmino’s Potential

Boca Juniors president Juan Román Riquelme really likes what he sees in Anselmino and thinks he’ll do great things. When talking to ESPN Riquelme said “He has developed a lot. He is on his way to being a great footballer. He is going to be a player for the national team. He is going to compete with the centre-backs.” When someone like Riquelme says stuff like that, you know the kid’s got something special.

Chelsea’s Strategic Moves Amidst Challenges

Anselmino comes in while Chelsea’s dealing with some stuff. Head coach Enzo Maresca has been trying his best to keep everything together, especially with Mykhailo Mudryk getting suspended temporarily because of failing a drugs test. Maresca’s been working on getting new players like Anselmino to fit in while keeping everyone’s spirits up. This is really important for making the defense better and helping the whole team do better.
