Crystal Palace are moving to add experience at centre-back, with Axel Disasi undergoing a medical after a verbal agreement was reached with Chelsea over a proposed loan. The deal is close, but it still requires the final administrative steps before it can be treated as a done deal.
- Crystal Palace and Chelsea have a verbal agreement in place for Disasi to move on loan.
- Palace would pay a loan fee and cover the defender’s salary under the proposed terms.
- The medical is under way, but the move has not yet been formally completed.
Axel Disasi’s Proposed Crystal Palace Move
Axel Disasi remains a Chelsea player at this stage, but he could soon become Crystal Palace’s latest addition if the remaining paperwork and registration steps are completed. The current framework is a paid loan, with Palace set to cover his salary, and the move is expected to be a straight temporary switch, even if the finer details should be treated cautiously until everything is signed off.
The move would give Palace another senior option in central defence without committing to a permanent transfer right away.
Palace’s Search for Defensive Experience
Crystal Palace’s interest makes perfect sense in light of Pierre Sage’s own description of what his squad needs. Following Maxence Lacroix’s departure, Sage stated that Palace needed a centre-back first and foremost – ideally someone with plenty of Premier League experience and leadership qualities.
Sage did not confirm the Disasi move directly when asked, making it clear that he would not speak in detail about a player from another club. He has also indicated that Palace may still want one or two more signings, but only if the right profiles become available, rather than rushing into the market.
That helps explain why Disasi has emerged as a realistic target.
What Disasi Could Offer Palace
Disasi’s recent playing record gives the move some practical logic, too. He made 17 appearances for West Ham United in the second half of last season, and all 14 of his Premier League outings were starts. Across that recent spell, he also featured three times in the FA Cup.
The record shows that Palace would be bringing in a defender with recent high-level minutes, rather than a player short on match sharpness, while still leaving room for the club to weigh up any further business before the transfer window shuts.
