Carlos Baleba remains a Brighton & Hove Albion player, but Bruno Fernandes has now added a very public show of admiration to Manchester United’s developing interest in him. Fernandes spoke warmly about Baleba’s energy, physical strength and ability to drive forward with the ball, though his comments do not by themselves confirm that a deal is close.
- Fernandes said Manchester United fans would love Baleba, highlighting his energy, strength and ball-carrying ability.
- Baleba remains a Brighton player, having enjoyed regular Premier League football for the club recently.
- Manchester United have reportedly explored a move, but Brighton still control the situation and no transfer has been completed.
Bruno Fernandes’ Praise for Carlos Baleba
Fernandes has now given the midfielder a clear public endorsement that will naturally catch the attention of Manchester United supporters.
Fernandes said he was sure United fans would love Baleba, describing him as energetic, physically strong and capable of driving up the pitch with the ball. He also called him young and exciting, adding that the club have been following him for two years. Those remarks fit neatly with the kind of qualities United could be looking for in midfield, but they should still be read as praise from a senior player rather than proof that Fernandes has any formal say over recruitment.
Manchester United’s Interest in Baleba
Manchester United’s interest in Baleba has reportedly been active enough for contact to be made with Brighton over the player, although an earlier proposed package of £60m plus £5m in add-ons was not expected to meet Brighton’s valuation. The move had also reportedly cooled earlier in the process when Brighton’s asking price was understood to be above £100m, underlining that this remains a developing situation rather than a completed agreement.
Baleba’s appeal is not difficult to see in that context. United could view his ground coverage, ball-winning ability and passing as useful traits in a midfield rebuild. It does help explain why the link has persisted.
Baleba Remains a Brighton Player
Brighton’s public stance has been simple so far. Fabian Hürzeler has described Baleba as a Brighton player and declined to discuss the Manchester United rumours in detail, leaving the club’s position clear even as outside interest continues.
Baleba’s recent Premier League performances help explain why he has drawn such attention. He made 31 league appearances and played 1,653 minutes in 2025/26, after 34 appearances, 2,660 minutes, three goals and one assist in 2024/25. For now, Brighton still hold the cards, and Fernandes’ praise adds fresh attention to the link.
