Aston Villa has taken a big step to sell its women’s team to V Sports, and some American investors are getting a piece of it too. They’re doing this to follow money rules and get new people to put money in the club.
- Aston Villa’s women’s team is being sold to V Sports with American investors involved
- The sale is gonna help them follow Premier League and UEFA money rules
- This is kinda like what Chelsea did with their women’s football investments
Aston Villa’s Financial Strategy
The club decided to sell the women’s team cause they need to sort out some money problems. They lost like £85.4 million in 2023-24 which is pretty bad and people are worried they might break Premier League’s money rules. They’re talking to UEFA too about following their rules. Even though it’s tough the sale is set up so the women’s team stays part of V Sports and can get new money. The good thing is spending on buildings and women’s football don’t count in PSR calculations which is why they’re doing this.

Implications of the Sale
The deal with V Sports, which these really rich guys Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris are in charge of, is helping Aston Villa keep their money situation good while still trying to win games. Other clubs are doing this too like Chelsea who sold their women’s team. Chelsea got like £200 million when they sold to BlueCo which showed these teams are worth a lot. Aston Villa is doing something similar to get money without getting in trouble with PSR rules.
Market Impact and Future Prospects
This sale shows how more people want to invest in women’s football nowadays. Aston Villa’s women’s team did pretty good last year coming in sixth in the Women’s Super League and now with V Sports they could do even better. Everyone can see women’s football is getting bigger and worth more money. This helps Aston Villa follow the rules about money but also means the women’s team could grow a lot more in the future.
