Why Playing for Your Country Matters
Paul Merson was talking the other day and he said “You play for your club to get noticed so you can play for your country.” This really shows what Morgan Rogers did, getting his first chance with England. The way he played so well for his club got him noticed which is exactly what Merson was talking about.

Problems for Clubs and Players
There’s always this argument about club versus country and now it’s even harder because of injuries. Arsenal and Manchester City are both having a real hard time because some of their best players are hurt which makes everything complicated for games at home and internationally. Arsenal might not have Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice which is really bad for them, and Manchester City has got similar problems with their team. It just shows how hard it is for players and managers to handle playing for both their clubs and their countries.
What Merson Thinks Based on His Career
Paul Merson who played loads of games for Arsenal and Aston Villa has always said playing for your country should come first. He scored 78 goals in 327 games for Arsenal and played 21 times for England which shows he knows what he’s talking about. Merson thinks this way because of everything he went through as a player and he really believes playing for your country is special. He thinks different from how football is now where it’s all about money and clubs, and instead thinks like they used to in the old days.
