Francisco Rodríguez Vílchez has become the new head coach of Santos Laguna in Liga MX after Tano Ortiz left the team. Vílchez, who is known for how he likes defensive strategies and quick play style will probably help make the team more stable. His main job is going to be to help Santos Laguna avoid getting relegated next season.

  • Vílchez got a one-year contract and can get another year if he does good.
  • Before this he was the manager at Rayo Vallecano in La Liga
  • He got the job because Tano Ortiz quit after having a really hard season.

Vílchez’s Appointment and Expectations

Francisco Rodríguez Vílchez becoming the new manager of Santos Laguna is a big change for the team. People know him for being good at defensive tactics and everyone thinks he’ll help the team do better. He used to work with Rayo Vallecano in La Liga which makes him look good and his contract says he can stay another year if things go well next season.

Tano Ortiz’s Departure

Tano Ortiz quit being the manager of Santos Laguna because they had a really bad Clausura 2025 season where they only won like 2 games out of 17 which put them at the bottom of everything. Even though things went bad people are saying he might get jobs at big teams like Chivas and Boca Juniors.

Managerial Changes in Football

The manager change at Santos Laguna is kind of like what happens at lots of other teams where they try to get new people to make things better. Other teams did it too like Al-Hilal where they switched Jorge Jesus for Mohammed Al-Shalhoub. This stuff happens a lot in football management.
