Gareth Ainsworth has given props to Bromley FC for how tough they are, saying they remind him of his old team Wycombe Wanderers. You can really see how both he and Bromley’s manager Andy Woodman value that never-give-up attitude and smart gameplan stuff. Bromley’s way of doing things has made them real threats in the National League.
- Gareth Ainsworth is managing Gillingham FC right now.
- Since March 2025 Ainsworth got Gillingham on this crazy 14-game streak without losing.
- The way he manages comes from what he learned at Wycombe Wanderers.
Ainsworth’s Leadership at Gillingham
Gareth Ainsworth who’s now running things at Gillingham FC is known for making teams that don’t back down easy. After he took over in March 2025 the team went on this amazing run, not losing for 14 games straight. All that time he spent playing and managing at Wycombe Wanderers really shaped how he thinks about getting teams to work together and give it their all. That’s probably why he gets what Andy Woodman’s doing at Bromley with their tough playing style and smart tactics.
If Gareth Ainsworth calls you the best battlers in the league, it’s the greatest compliment he could pay you.
Clearly sees shades of his Wycombe side in Andy Woodman’s Bromley: must be doing something right.
After all, the Ravens are known for their mimicry…

Woodman’s Bromley: A Reflection of Determination
Since Andy Woodman took charge Bromley FC has turned into this team that kind of looks like what Ainsworth had going at Wycombe. They’re really good at changing things up when they need to and they fight super hard in games which is getting them noticed. Woodman used to be a goalkeeper and you can see how that affects the way he manages, he really knows how to get his players fired up and organized so they can handle the tough teams they play against.
Leadership Trends in Football
When you see how Ainsworth and Woodman respect each other it shows you something bigger about how football managing is changing where being able to adapt and staying strong are super important. It makes you think about other teams that turned everything around with new managers showing how being clever with your strategy can totally change how good a team is. When Ainsworth says nice things about Bromley it’s like he’s giving them a pat on the back but also saying yeah we all know how hard this job is especially when you’re trying to build a team that’s both tough and smart about how they play.
