Pumas UNAM has got themselves a new player by signing Panamanian midfielder Adalberto Carrasquilla from Houston Dynamo FC. The deal cost around $3 million which they hope will make their team stronger for the Clausura 2025 season coming up. Carrasquilla knows how to play different positions and has played internationally which makes him really good for the Liga MX team.

Pumas UNAM got themselves Adalberto Carrasquilla who’s really good at moving the ball around and can play different spots on the field. People call him “Coco” and he helped Houston Dynamo FC win the U.S. Open Cup in 2023. Him coming to Pumas is pretty big since Liga MX is known to be tough and has lots of crazy fans. Pumas needed someone like him right now to make their midfield better before the Clausura 2025 season starts when they play Necaxa first.

Carrasquilla’s Impressive Career Trajectory
Carrasquilla started in Panama City and worked his way up to Liga MX playing really good everywhere he went. He first played pro with Tauro FC in Panama, then went to Spain to play for FC Cartagena where he got better at European style football. When he went to Houston Dynamo FC he played 116 games and scored 11 goals becoming one of their best players. He’s also played 63 times for Panama’s national team and done really good. Pumas thinks his experience and smart playing will help them win more games this season.
Transfer Context and Pumas’ Aspirations
Getting Carrasquilla is just part of what Pumas is trying to do to get better. They’re also trying to get Alex Padilla who’s a goalkeeper from Athletic Bilbao as you can read here. After getting to the quarterfinals in 2024 Apertura Pumas wants to do even better in Clausura 2025, and they think Carrasquilla can help them do that since he can play lots of different ways in midfield.
