Nottingham Forest and Blackburn told to pay PL winger’s wages in-full to secure loan

Championship sides Nottingham Forest and Blackburn have both found it difficult to secure a loan deal for Christian Atsu from Newcastle ahead of Friday’s deadline – with the sticking point being the wages.

Newcastle are driving a hard deal on Deadline Day, via a report in Inside Futbol, which says that the Magpies want a club to come-in and pay Atsu’s contract in-full until the end of the season – that’s speculated to be around the £30,000-a-week mark.

Atsu has been clocking in some regular game-time this season, with 18 appearances and three assists, but new arrivals in this window could see him fall down the pecking order at Newcastle.

It remains to be seen whether either Blackburn or Nottingham Forest would gamble on such a financial commitment, with promotion not a sure thing for either club.
