Newcastle’s new owners want ‘marquee’ transfer from Real Madrid

The new owners at Newcastle are keen to put the club on the map and other top European clubs on notice, and according to the Chronicle, a big ‘marquee’ signing from Real Madrid is possible.

The man wanted? Gareth Bale. The Welsh international scored 16 times in 34 games for Tottenham last season, despite being used sparingly at times under then manager Jose Mourinho.

Having started the season as a first pick back at Real Madrid, injury has once again undone his momentum and has since missed recent World Cup international qualifying games for his country as a result.

Bale’s huge contract is up in the summer of 2022 and he would be available on a free transfer, but could Newcastle tempt Real Madrid to part ways with the Welshman in the new year? A transfer story to watch closely as the revolution on Tyneside hots up.
