Bayern Munich opened their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 5-0 win over Bodoe/Glimt at the Allianz Arena, turning a goalless first half into a dominant second-half display and moving up to second in the table after matchday one.
Michael Olise supplied the late gloss with two goals and the assist for Harry Kane’s header, while Jamal Musiala’s strike was the moment the evening changed.
Bodoe/Glimt had made Bayern work for that margin. The visitors defended with a compact five-man backline protected by a midfield four, and Nikita Haikin was central to keeping the score at 0-0 before the interval.
The win also extended Bayern’s long-standing opening-night record in Europe. Bayern have now won their opening match of a European campaign 24 times in a row, and their unbeaten home run in the opening phase of the Champions League has stretched to 39 matches, with 37 wins and two draws.
Bayern break Bodoe/Glimt resistance after the interval
Bodoe/Glimt’s first-half plan was clear and, for a while, effective. Bayern had the territory, the ball and the pressure, but not enough space in the final third to turn that control into a lead.
Haikin was the main reason the visitors reached the break level. He denied Luis Díaz early on, then kept out efforts from Musiala and Joshua Kimmich, while Kimmich also hit the base of the post in the 35th minute. When Haikin needed treatment in the 45th minute and was replaced at half-time by Julian Lund, it proved to be another significant blow on a night that was already demanding enough for Bodoe/Glimt.
Bayern removed the tension almost immediately after the restart. Musiala struck in the 47th minute from a move involving Kane, and that early breakthrough changed the rhythm of the contest. Kane summed it up neatly afterwards, saying Bayern had needed to stay calm at the interval and that the early goal had opened the game up.
Once the first goal arrived, the spaces followed. Kane made it 2-0 in the 61st minute with a header from Olise’s delivery, Davies added the third following a corner in the 77th minute, and Olise took over the closing stages with goals in the 83rd minute and in stoppage time (90+2).
Odin Luraas Bjørtuft’s red card in the 87th minute only deepened Bodoe/Glimt’s difficult finish. By then, though, Bayern were already four goals clear and fully in control.
Olise, Kane and Musiala drive Bayern’s control
Olise was Bayern’s defining attacking figure even before his late brace. His free-kick delivery created Kane’s goal, his threat from the edge of the box kept Bodoe/Glimt pinned back, and his two late finishes gave the scoreline the emphatic look Bayern’s second-half display deserved.
Kane’s contribution ran through the key moments as well. He assisted Musiala for the opener, then scored the second himself to extend his Champions League scoring run to seven consecutive matches. Musiala, meanwhile, marked his first competitive Bayern start since the cup final on 23 May with his 10th goal in the competition, which was also Bayern’s 900th in European football.
The numbers underline how convincing the win became. Bayern finished with 66% possession, a 26-3 advantage in shots, 11 efforts on target to Bodoe/Glimt’s none, and an expected goals (xG) tally of 2.353 to 0.099.
Those figures do not tell the full story on their own, because the first half was more about patience than fluency. What changed after Musiala’s opener was Bayern’s speed and directness. They moved the ball more quickly, the visitors’ compact shape had to stretch, and players such as Olise and Kane were suddenly operating in the spaces that Bodoe/Glimt had denied before the break.
