Man Utd using Ronaldo as leverage to sign Barcelona’s Messi successor
Manchester United have already felt the benefit of the return of Ronaldo on the pitch with the Portuguese superstar netting twice on his second-debut, but off the pitch CR7’s influence could help the club land a new star.
Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, also happens to represent Barcelona and Spain’s Ansu Fati, a ‘successor’ to Lionel Messi at the Catalan giants, but United are seemingly hoping to tempt the attacker to Old Trafford next year – amid the ongoing financial crisis at Barca.
As reported in Spanish source Mundo Deportivo, the 18-year-old has had enquiries made by Man Utd and his price-tag would arguably generate Barcelona the most cash of all other players at the club – potentially tempting the club to sell.
The feeling though is that Fati wants to ‘succeed’ at Barcelona and a new contract is likely to be handed to a player who could very well go on to be a mainstay in XI for the next decade and beyond.
