Manchester United are gearing up for the next transfer window, in what has so far been a disappointing season in the Premier League. More dropped points at the weekend increases the pressure of the club, but fans may be encouraged by news that United scouts were watching of the league’s top prospects at West Ham – according to the Metro.

The focus at the London Stadium was on Declan Rice who has emerged this season as an important part of West Ham’s plans, despite only being 19-years old. Chelsea are also reportedly interested in the midfielder, who can also play in-defence – that added versatility has increased the interest from United and the Blues.

Declan Rice is also in-demand at international level, with the player having the dilemma of choosing whether to represent Ireland or England – having been capped three times for Ireland already he is still eligible for England because he hasn’t played for the Irish in a competitive fixture yet.

West Ham are aware of the interest and have been trying to tie Rice down to a new deal, but having rejected a new £20k-a-week deal the Hammers are concerned the 19-year old could end up leaving for a relatively small fee – his contract expires in 2020.

United’s scouts will have seen their arch-rivals City thrash West Ham 4-0 but Declan Rice was one of the few players to impress, despite the comprehensive defeat at the London Stadium.
