Bradley’s Coaching Journey

Michael Bradley, who’s been huge in American soccer has taken over as head coach for New York Red Bulls II. It’s kind of cool cause Bradley started his pro career playing with the New York Red Bulls organization. Everyone knows him from the US Men’s National Team and Toronto FC, Bradley stopped playing after the 2023 MLS season leaving behind 151 games for his country and like 308 games for Toronto where they won the MLS Cup in 2017.

After he retired Bradley went to work with his dad Bob Bradley at Stabaek in Norway to learn about coaching. Even though the team got relegated he learned a lot about coaching at that level. Jesse Marsch then got him to help with the Canadian Men’s National Team which helped him get better at coaching and led to his new job with Red Bulls II.

Strategic Move by Red Bull Global

Red Bull Global picked Bradley to coach their second team cause they think he could be really good at coaching. It makes sense for him to go from player to coach since he knows so much about soccer and was always a leader when he played. This job with New York Red Bulls II gives Bradley a chance to figure out how he wants to coach and get real experience managing a team.

If you wanna see how other coaches have done in Major League Soccer, look at what Jesper Sorensen did with the Vancouver Whitecaps in Vancouver Whitecaps: A Rising Force in MLS. Sorensen showed how new coaches can do really well in the league which is what Bradley’s trying to do now.

The MLS Coaching Landscape

Bradley’s starting coaching right when Major League Soccer is getting bigger and better. The league’s getting more exciting with players like Kevin De Bruyne maybe coming over like it says in Kevin De Bruyne Set for Potential Move to Chicago Fire. It’s gonna be tough but also exciting for new coaches like Bradley who gotta deal with all the pressure of running a team when everything’s changing so much.

If you wanna know more about how tough MLS can be check out Atlanta United’s Rocky Start to 2025: Can They Turn It Around? which talks about Atlanta United’s problems and their manager which shows what Bradley’s gonna have to deal with.

Everyone’s gonna be watching to see how Bradley does as a coach as he tries to do good things with New York Red Bulls II and maybe get bigger coaching jobs later on.
