There’s some major drama going down in Cincinnati as Luciano “Lucho” Acosta, who just won the Landon Donovan MLS MVP, is dropping hints that he might leave FC Cincinnati after this season. The Argentine midfielder who’s been super important for making Cincinnati into a really good MLS team, seems unsure about staying after they got knocked out of the 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs.
- Acosta’s got a contract with FC Cincinnati till 2026.
- He’s been involved in like 51% of all the teams goals since 2021.
- If he leaves it’s gonna be real tough for the club.
What Acosta’s Done and What’s Next
If Luciano Acosta ends up leaving FC Cincinnati it would be pretty huge for both the club and Major League Soccer. He started at Boca Juniors then went to D.C. United and Atlas FC before coming here, and he’s been amazing the whole time showing great leadership. Whatever he decides is gonna be super important for the club as they try to figure out what to do this offseason.

You can’t deny how good Acosta is on the field, I mean he helped score 33 goals this season which is his best ever. If he goes there’s gonna be a huge hole in the team. To learn more about what Acosta means to the team and where he might go check out Lucho Acosta’s Future at FC Cincinnati.
FC Cincinnati’s Game Plan
Since there’s a chance Acosta might leave, FC Cincinnati is already making moves to get better players. They’re looking at Kevin Denkey from Cercle Brugge who’s really good at scoring and won the Belgian League Golden Boot. They’re willing to spend like 15 million dollars on him which shows how serious they are about getting better at scoring goals.
But the team’s been dealing with some really sad stuff too, like when Marco Angulo who was on loan and his old teammate Roberto Cabezas died in a car crash. It’s been really hard on everyone in the team. If you wanna know more about what happened, you can read about it here Tragic Loss: Marco Angulo and Roberto Cabezas.
What’s Next for FC Cincinnati
The people running FC Cincinnati got some big choices to make about how to keep the team good while dealing with who’s on the team right now. They gotta figure out how to keep their good players and get new ones if they wanna keep winning.
