Kevin De Bruyne, the Belgian superstar is about to make a huge change in his career as he’s planning to leave Manchester City when the 2024-25 season ends. If he goes to Chicago Fire it could make the team way better and make more European players want to come to MLS. De Bruyne has been amazing at City scoring 106 goals and getting like 118 assists in the Premier League which shows how much he could change MLS.
To add: Sources say this is why San Diego FC gave up discovery rights on Kevin De Bruyne. Like w/ Miami, if no realistic path to sign him, no negotiating for rights.

San Diego FC and Inter Miami’s Negotiation Landscape
San Diego FC dropped out of trying to get Kevin De Bruyne because they knew it wasn’t going to happen. At the same time Inter Miami got priority rights for De Bruyne. This shows how MLS teams compete to get big players to make their teams better. MLS could make a lot more money especially with the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup coming up which would help teams spend more.
Marco Reus’s Move to LA Galaxy
Meanwhile Marco Reus decided to go to LA Galaxy instead of Charlotte FC even though Charlotte offered more money. Reus picked LA because he liked the lifestyle and the team’s history better than just getting more money. He’s already doing good there with a goal and an assist against Portland Timbers which shows he really wants to help Galaxy do well.
Reus picking LA shows that players don’t just care about money when they pick MLS teams, they also think about how the team plays where they’ll live and what the team’s all about. This shows how the football transfer market isn’t just about money but about other stuff that matters to players too.
