Garth Lagerwey, who’s been super important in American soccer management got cancer and had to take time off from being president of Atlanta United FC. Lagerwey did really good stuff before, like when he helped Seattle Sounders FC win MLS Cups back in 2016 and 2019. He started out at Real Salt Lake and got them their first ever MLS Cup win in 2009.

Atlanta United’s Current Challenges
Atlanta United’s having a pretty rough 2025 season they only won 2 games out of 10. The team ain’t doing so hot with players like Alexey Miranchuk and Miguel Almiron not playing their best and there’s some problems with how manager Ronny Deila is running things. With Lagerwey gone now the team’s got even more pressure to do better. The games coming up against Nashville SC and Philadelphia Union are gonna be real important for how the rest of their season goes.
Atlanta United president Garth Lagerwey has been diagnosed with cancer. He will take a leave of absence from the club as he focuses on his health.

Community Support for Lagerwey
When everyone found out about Lagerwey getting cancer, lots of people started showing support which shows how much people respect him. Fans and people he worked with are all hoping he gets better real quick. While the club deals with this tough time, everyone’s trying to support Lagerwey while also trying to fix what’s going wrong on the field.
Lagerwey’s Legacy and Impact
With Lagerwey gone Atlanta United’s missing some real important leadership but the way he never gave up and always succeeded is gonna help push the team and everyone else forward. He’s really good at planning stuff and leading teams which is why everyone in soccer knows and respects him cause he knows how to build teams that win.
