Brad Guzan, the former USMNT and Atlanta United goalkeeper has announced his retirement after an amazing 21-year career. Guzan’s career includes big achievements in both Major League Soccer and the English Premier League especially with Aston Villa. His leadership helped Atlanta United succeed early on including their MLS Cup win in 2018.

Guzan’s Impact on Atlanta United
Since he joined Atlanta United in 2017 Brad Guzan has been super important to how good the team is. His experience and leadership helped the team win lots of games including the MLS Cup in 2018 and both the US Open Cup and Campeones Cup in 2019. Guzan did more than just play soccer good, he showed younger players what to do and the fans in Atlanta really loved him.

International Career and Premier League Stint
Guzan did a lot more than just play in Major League Soccer he also played really good for the US Men’s National Team (USMNT) and in the English Premier League. He played 64 games for the USMNT and was in the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups and helped win three CONCACAF Gold Cups. When he played in the Premier League he did really good with Aston Villa where he played 171 games.

A Farewell to a Storied Career
On October 14, 2025 Brad Guzan said he was retiring and talked about how thankful he was for his 20 years playing soccer. When he thought about everything he did Guzan said “21 years is a long time. I’m just a kid from Chicago who instantly knew this game was for me.” Now that he’s retiring it’s the end of something big not just for Atlanta United but for all the fans in the United States who watched him do great things here and in other countries.
