Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has set his sights on signing one of the latest products of the Barcelona academy, this summer by triggering an ‘affordable’ contractually added release clause.

Gavi, 17, has been one of the bright sparks of a season of mixed results for Barcelona – with the club unlikely to win any silverware after a quarter final exit in the Europa League and being way behind Real Madrid in the title race.

The youngster has yet to commit his long-term future to Barcelona, however according to a report in the Liverpool Echo, the expectation is that he will eventually stay in Catalonia, ignoring advances from clubs like Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

The Spanish international’s potential and ceiling is obvious to see, having scored twice from midfield for Barcelona this season – he is the youngest ever player to represent Spain at senior level.
