Leeds ahead of Premier League rivals to sign highly-rated Northern Irishman

Leeds are reportedly frontrunners to sign a highly-rated Northern Irish attacker on the back of comprehensive scouting and a long-standing interest – enough to fend off interest from Scotland and English Premier League clubs.

A report in the Yorkshire Post states that Linfield’s impressive 16-year-old Charlie Allen could be one of Leeds’ first signings when business is allowed to resume, but a deal is far from ‘iminent’ due to the continued uncertainty of the season.

Linfield are managed by former Leeds star David Healy which is also likely to be in the club’s favour, should Allen seek out advice on his choice of next club.

Allen made his senior debut at just 15 and has been attracting the attention of visiting scouts from Liverpool, Rangers, Chelsea, Manchester City and others.

Leeds will certainly want to ensure they back up their groundwork and secure the signing when the window reopens, but promotion to the top-flight could be the difference maker in securing a deal ahead of such stellar competition.
