Ruud Nijstad has already broken into the FC Twente first team, and Barcelona’s late-window push for the defender is currently falling short of the Dutch club’s valuation. Twente are resisting the approach, leaving the move unresolved as the deadline approaches.
- Barcelona’s current offer for Nijstad falls below FC Twente’s valuation.
- Twente have rejected the present terms and are pushing back against a sale.
- The deal now depends on Barcelona improving the structure or value of their bid.
Barcelona’s Current Situation with Ruud Nijstad
Having recently established himself in the FC Twente first team, Ruud Nijstad has emerged as a genuine defensive target for Barcelona late in the transfer window. He made 21 Eredivisie appearances in 2025/26, including 18 starts, and has also started all three of Twente’s Conference League qualifiers in 2026/27.
That recent first-team exposure helps explain why Barcelona are tracking him so closely. With the young centre-back clearly in demand, the current issue is not a lack of interest but the gap between Barcelona’s offer and Twente’s asking price.
The gap in valuation is reportedly between Barcelona’s €8m offer and Twente’s €10m asking price, although the exact figures remain unconfirmed.
Nijstad’s Future Depends on a New Agreement
Nijstad is now a key part of Barcelona’s late-window plans, but the Catalan club need a breakthrough if they want to get the deal done before the window shuts. Sporting director Deco is understood to be driving the negotiations, but the central obstacle remains Twente’s reluctance to let the player go on the present terms.
Twente also have a strong argument for standing firm. Nijstad previously chose to continue his development at the club despite substantial interest from PSV Eindhoven and Eintracht Frankfurt, giving the Dutch side a credible chance of keeping him if Barcelona fail to return with an improved offer.
Barcelona could still find a way forward by raising the fee or restructuring the deal. If they do not, Nijstad will simply remain at FC Twente beyond the deadline.
