Ajax are set to sign Gerónimo Spina from Atlético Madrid’s reserve setup, with the 21-year-old centre-back expected to begin his time in Amsterdam with Jong Ajax. The move would give the Argentine defender a fresh route.

  • Spina is expected to leave Atlético’s reserve setup for Ajax.
  • The 21-year-old defender will reportedly begin his time with Jong Ajax.
  • The deal could be worth slightly more than €500,000, with Atlético retaining a sell-on clause.

Gerónimo Spina’s Move to Ajax

Gerónimo Spina, currently turning out for Atlético Madrileño rather than Atlético Madrid’s first team, is set to make the switch to Ajax in what appears to be a permanent move. His expected first stop is Jong Ajax, which makes this more about development than an immediate senior-team role in Amsterdam.

The 21-year-old Argentine central defender joined Atlético from Estudiantes in 2023. Since then, he has progressed through the club’s Under-19 side and into Atlético Madrileño, racking up around 28 appearances for the reserve team before this next step opened up.

The Reported Deal Structure and Atlético’s Future Interest

A permanent transfer could take Spina to Amsterdam for a fee slightly above €500,000, provided everything is finalised as expected. The fee would keep the financial side of the move fairly modest.

Atlético could also retain a 30% sell-on clause, leaving the Spanish club with a vested interest in Spina’s progress after his departure. If he settles well in Dutch football, that clause could yet prove lucrative for Atlético.

Spina’s Next Step in Dutch Football

This makes the move feel like a logical next stage for a young centre-back still building his senior profile, rather than a sudden jump into the first-team spotlight.

Ajax have also brought Jano Monserrate in from Atlético to join the Jong Ajax pathway, adding a little extra context to this deal. It suggests a link between Atlético’s youth environment and the development opportunities available in Amsterdam.

For Spina, the immediate target will simply be to establish himself with Jong Ajax and adapt to a new footballing environment. An eventual place in Ajax’s senior side could come later, but for now this looks like a potentially smart next move for his development.
