Atlético Madrid are closing in on a deal for Jonathan David that would bring the Juventus striker to La Liga on an initial loan with an option to buy. A verbal agreement is in place, and Atlético are set to take on more than half of his salary, although the move still requires a few final steps before it can be considered complete.
- David is set to leave Juventus on an initial loan with an option to buy.
- Atlético would cover more than 50 per cent of the striker’s salary.
- Juventus are expected to secure attacking cover before giving the green light for his departure.
Jonathan David’s Atlético Madrid Move Takes Shape
Jonathan David remains a Juventus player for now and was involved as recently as the club’s 2-0 Serie A win over Parma on 29 August, which underlines how fluid this situation still is. The move to Atlético is advanced rather than official, with a verbal agreement reached but the final steps to completion still to come.
The proposed deal is an initial loan with an option to buy, while Atlético’s willingness to cover more than half of David’s salary appears to be a key part of getting the deal over the line. The exact length of the loan, purchase terms, travel arrangements, medical checks and registration are still to be finalised.
David would arrive in Spain after a mixed first season at Juventus. He made 35 Serie A appearances last term, scoring six goals and adding four assists, while also contributing two goals and one assist in eight Champions League appearances.
Atlético Madrid’s Centre-Forward Plans
Atlético’s interest in David makes sense as a squad-building move rather than a clear one-for-one swap. The idea is to add another centre-forward option and strengthen the depth available up front, not to signal an immediate exit for one of the club’s current strikers.
Their focus appears to have sharpened after Nicolás Jackson completed his move from Chelsea to Aston Villa, even with Julián Álvarez still attracting interest from Arsenal and Barcelona.
Juventus’ Late-Window Forward Planning
Juventus still have their own decisions to make before this deal can be wrapped up. Final approval for David’s departure may depend on the Italian club bringing in a replacement before the window closes.
Joshua Zirkzee has been considered as a possible successor, but no incoming signing is confirmed at this stage. For David, a switch to Atlético would offer a fresh opening after his first Juventus campaign, and his earlier return of 109 goals in 232 appearances for Lille shows the scoring background the Spanish side would be adding if the final pieces fall into place.
