Derby hold firm for ‘£5m and no less’ as academy prospect wanted by former boss

Derby County have made their stance clear on academy midfield product Max Bird, by slapping a £5 million price-tag on their breakthrough star, and won’t take a penny less – according to a report via Football Insider.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has reportedly made signing his former player a priority in the next transfer window, with Bird impressing both the former England midfielder and his assistant Jody Morris, during their one season at the Rams.

Max Bird was on quite a run of games before football was suspended and the 19-year-old has made a total of 13 Championship appearances this season, scoring one goal and assisting twice.

Lampard has made it a trademark in his early days as manager by giving youth an opportunity to impress, and Bird may very well feel that his chances of getting game-time at a club like Chelsea would be relatively high due to the current playing philosophy.
