Mesut Ozil could emerge as DC United’s top transfer target, in what would be a groundbreaking move for the MLS side wanting a World Cup winner still arguably in his prime at 30-years-old.

The Express report that Mesut Oil’s representatives will fly out to the US capitol this week and try to persuade DC United to splash out on signing the now retired German international.

Wages appear to be the a huge sticking point though, with the current top paid player in MLS, Zlatan Ibrahimovic earning £115k-a-week – so there will have to be a way for any kind of contract to be structured in such a way that Ozil can still pocket and play in the States.

Mesut Ozil is Arsenal’ s highest-paid player earning £350,000-a-week in north London, but if talks are indeed set to take place this week between the player’s team and DC United, then it’s obvious this transfer is possible.
