Aston Villa’s loanee star Philippe Coutinho is all but certain to leave Barcelona this summer, regardless of how impressive his performances are in the Premier League, and naturally it’s Steven Gerrard’s side that lead the chase to sign him on a permanent deal.

However, Arsenal are currently Champions League bound and should they finish in the top four, will emerge to rival Aston Villa for the 29-year-old’s signature – according to the Birmingham Mail.

The report states that Villa have a £33million option to sign the in-form Brazilian this summer, and that the Midlands club are ready to fight, if a club like Arsenal comes in.

The Gunners had been a frontrunner to sign Philippe Coutinho in January, but with Mikel Arteta’s side in the kind of form they’re in and potential of top European football nights back next season, could the playmaker end up in north London?
