Uruguayan midfielder Martín Fernández has joined Newell’s Old Boys on a loan deal from CA Boston River, which will last until December 2026. The move includes an option for Newell’s to buy the player showing their plans to build up their squad with Fernández’s abilities and know-how.

Fernández’s Role at Newell’s Old Boys

Martín Fernández coming to Newell’s Old Boys is a smart move to make their midfield better. Being 1.83 meters tall the Uruguayan midfielder is good at controlling the middle and defensive parts of the field. He started at Liverpool FC Montevideo and really showed what he could do at Gimnasia. Newell’s wants to use what he learned in the Argentine Primera División to do better in the league.


Fernández is worth about €400,000 as of June 2025 which shows how good he’s gotten in South American football. Him joining Newell’s shows the club really wants to make their team stronger for what’s coming up in the league.
