Juan Ramón Verón who everyone called “La Bruja” was essential to Estudiantes de La Plata’s best ever period. In the late 1960s Verón helped Estudiantes win three Copa Libertadores titles in a row (1968-1970) making them big internationally. When he scored against Manchester United at Old Trafford in 1968 it helped them win the Intercontinental Cup for the club. He didn’t just do good in international games he also helped the team win a domestic league title in 1967 and the Inter-American Cup in 1969.

A Legacy Beyond the Field
Verón did more than just play good football. After he stopped playing he worked with young players in Estudiantes youth divisions making sure his influence would keep going through new players. His boy Juan Sebastián Verón followed him becoming a big footballer and later becoming president of Estudiantes de La Plata. This family thing makes the Verón name really important in the club’s history showing what Estudiantes is all about.
