As England prepare for their last-16 showdown with Colombia on Tuesday evening, Juan Quintero who scored the south American’s opening goal of the tournament is being targeted by Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, the newly-promoted big spenders could be set for a showdown for Quintero’s signature from both Tottenham Hotspur and European champions Real Madrid (via the Mirror).

The 25-year old who is currently a player for Portuguese side Porto, is a versatile midfielder who can play through the middle or on the right-hand side and Colombia’s progression to the knockouts is part in thanks to his two assists and one goal in the tournament thus far. Quintero though has been out on-loan at Argentinian side River Plate this past half season – and has in-fact been shipped out on-loan three times since 2015 up until 2018.

Wolves, according to the Mirror, are using their connections to try and get a deal for Juan Quintero done under the noses of Real Madrid and Tottenham, with super agent Jorge Mendes playing a key role, as well as manager Nuno Espirito Santo who knows about Quintero during his time at Porto – as well as being well connected with the club.

The Midlands club want to make a splash in England’s top-flight this upcoming season and will already have Portugal’s number one goalkeeper between the sticks after signing Rui Patricio at the start of the World Cup, as well as Mexican international Raul Jimenez who is also in Russia this summer.

With Quintero seemingly out of Porto’s plans, they are likely to demand a premium price from his World Cup performances and they will likely hope he can put in another headline grabbing display against England on Tuesday. The momentum though seem to be with Wolves and their connections, and getting a deal done fast will be crucial as other clubs continue to finalise their transfer plans.
