Surprise interest as Tottenham eye ‘free England international’ this summer
Tottenham have been dealing admirably without the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli in recent weeks, picking up victories and keeping the pressure on Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League.
However, Spurs are now seemingly convinced they need a new backup striker for Kane, despite Son Heung-min’s match-winning goals in his absence. The Mirror today via Sky Sports say that the north London club are eyeing up a free transfer swoop in the summer for Daniel Sturridge – his Liverpool contract is finally running down, with wages of £120,000 a-week.
Fernando Llorente has come in and done a decent job but is far from prolific, Vincent Janssen has been a major flop since coming in 2016 with a big reputation in the Netherlands and has no future at the club.
Moving for Daniel Sturridge though will be a major gamble for Tottenham in terms of availability, his injuries have seen his career stall, however it would appear the 29-year old seems to be injury free this season and will want to kick-start when he becomes available in the summer.
This season at Liverpool Sturridge has featured in the Premier League 13 times, but has played less than 40 minutes of league football in 2019 so far, last scoring back in September.
