Spanish news source Mundo Deportivo are stating that Paris St-Germain want to sign Barcelona’s recently signed Philippe Coutinho for around €270 million (around about £239m) in a bid to facilitate and help his countryman Neymar settle in the French capital.

The 26-year old only made the switch from Liverpool to Barcelona back in January of this year for a staggering transfer fee in and around £142 million, and if the bid from PSG is to come to fruition then Barcelona stand to make around £100 million in-profit in less than a year.

However, PSG fans should probably wait on getting freshly-printed Coutinho shirts for the new season, as the report in Mundo Deportivo says that the Catalan giants have no interest in selling Philippe Coutinho and would only be forced into talks should PSG meet the player’s release clause – which stands at around €400 million (£353 million).

PSG are currently centre of a financial investigation review on transfer spending, so for the club to be absolutely re-writing the record books once again may seem a little badly timed – signing such an expensive new player may of course require PSG to sell one of their own top players first.

Coutinho was undoubtedly one of Brazil’s top performers as the country was knocked out in the quarter-finals to Belgium – the 26-year old scored twice and assisted two more in five appearances. Last season with both Liverpool and Barcelona the Brazilian bagged himself 22 goals and 14 assists – scoring five in the Champions League group stages for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

With Real Madrid supposedly interested in PSG’s main man Neymar, it would appear that this report in Spain is fuelling the case that the French club need to help their current record-signing settle in more by bringing in player’s that he likes to work with.
