It would appear that Manchester United are looking to inject a fresh spark into their transfer window spending, with the Independent stating that Jose Mourinho has decided to target Bayern Munich pair, Robert Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara.

Jose Mourinho has been a long-time fan of the 29-year old Polish striker, who failed to score in any of his country’s three World Cup games – the report however says that a lot will depend on whether Chelsea or Real Madrid make moves, with both looking for another goal scoring option.

Thiago Alcantara, now 27, was close to joining Manchester United back in 2013, before making a late switch to a Pep Guardiola-led Bayern Munich at the time. The former Barcelona midfielder is however waiting on whether or not his former Spanish club will make a move for him this summer, before moving on to any other club.

Bayern Munich, according to the Independent are very much open to selling both Lewandowski and Alcantara in this summer’s transfer window – for the right price, and if United are seriously considering bids then they are likely to be forthcoming in the next week or two.

The report also goes on to say that United’s pursuit and negotiations for Toby Alderweireld at Tottenham have broken off, with Spurs demanding a transfer fee that the Old Trafford outfit were just not prepared to come up to. With the defender’s contract running down next summer and no deal likely to be signed it could be a matter of time before the Belgian does find a way to Manchester United.
