Chelsea set to lose out on free-scoring target to Spanish champions Barcelona

Chelsea, much to the disappointment of Blues fans, will likely miss out on Frankfurt’s (on-loan from Benfica) striker Luka Jovic, who at 21, has been a standout performer in the Bundesliga this season.

Barcelona are set to clinch a deal with Frankfurt in the summer to sign Jovic as a potentially long-term replacement for Luis Suarez, leaving Chelsea to contemplate their next move if Gonzalo Higuain doesn’t stay beyond the summer – according to the Guardian.

Luka Jovic has scored 14 goal in 19 Bundesliga appearances, while netting five in six Europa League games this season – an impressive haul for a club currently sitting fifth in the table.

Frankfurt have first option to buy Jovic at the end of his loan deal, which will all but likely mean the Germans will take up that option and then sell him to Barcelona immediately. It’s said that they see Jovic’s value similar that of the €75 million that will take Frenkie de Jong from Ajax to Barcelona.
