If reports are to believed Manchester United and Anthony Martial are continually looking like a bad matchup and the relationship between Jose Mourinho and the 22-year old have deteriorated in pre-season. The Mirror state that a swap-type deal is in the works where Anthony Martial could be heading to Bayern Munich, and United getting Robert Lewandowski in-return.

Robert Lewandowski has long been rumoured to want a fresh challenge outside of the Bundesliga and at the age of 29, it could be one of the last opportunities to get a player right at his peak – despite having a slightly disappointing World Cup with Poland, failing to score any goals.

Anthony Martial returned home during Manchester United’s pre-season tour in the United States for the birth of his child, leading to Jose Mourinho saying he was unsure when the Frenchman would return. The Mirror go on to say that United are debating whether to fine Martial for departing the tour to the tune of £180,000.

Quotes carried in the Mirror via the Sun from a source to the story said;

His agent is close to Jose and United and he is keeping them both in the loop along with Real Madrid.”

Bayern want Martial to take over from Ribery but don’t want to pay the excessive fee being asked for.”

However, German news source Bild state that it’s not Robert Lewandowski that United are looking to do a deal with, it’s German defender Jerome Boateng.
Jose Mourinho has been linked to making advances for defenders Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld, so it’s not a surprise to see the experienced 29-year old Boateng being linked to Old Trafford.

Most neturals would suggest that Bayern Munich would be getting the better end of the deal if Boateng is brought in for Anthony Martial – especially so with his lethargic displays for Germany in their group stage exit in Russia.
