Blow for Manchester United as target reveals he wants to ‘stay at Inter’

Slovakian international and Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar has seemingly ruled out the prospect of a transfer away this summer, with Manchester United being the club that is right at the front of that pursuit.

The Daily mail say that Manchester United have made a £57 million bid for the 23-year old defender, but Inter Milan are holding out for somewhere in the region of at least £70 million. Despite this, it would appear that the player himself has no intention of leaving, with Skriniar pretty much telling Radio Expres (via Football Italia) that offers may come, but he wants to stay;

I want to stay at Inter.”

I am very happy with the way we finished off the season.”

I don’t know about any offers, but I want to stay at Inter. Everyone in Milan was so kind and eager to help me settle in, for example the club helped me find an apartment.”

I am happy with the way they were genuinely interested in me.”

Having signed from fellow Italian side Fiorentina, his first season at the San Siro has been a hit, playing in all 38 Serie A league games and contributing four goals along the way too.
With 18 senior caps for Slovakia, the 23-year old has shown his maturity and quality in just a single season at the former Champions League winners.

Manchester United will likely ponder their next move towards the defender, having seemingly cooled their pursuit of Tottenham’s £75 million-valued 29-year old Toby Alderweireld. At 23 though, Skriniar has the best years to come, while the Spurs defender has had an injury-hit season – while the prices may be about the same there might be more willingness to get nearer the £70 million mark for Inter’s young star.
